Navigation of Spirit through the holidays (Holy-days)

Happy Holy-days and Merry Christ-mass from Shallyn’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Services.  At Shallyn’s we are so grateful for Christ’s death/sacrifice; the greatest gift we can have and give.  Without Christ, we would not be able to grow in the fruits of the Holy Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal 5:22-23).  In the flesh we are powerless over naturally achieving these mindsets.

In Shallyn’s Tai Chi winter series that kicked off tonight, we reviewed how our natural mindset comes to be, how it manifests into our body’s expression, and results in our current circumstances/reality/environment.  We have a choice to break down negative subconscious beliefs, patterns, habits and values that prevent us from living our most healthy lives each and every day.  We can move from a place of judgement to a place of forgiveness (thank you Jesus for being the propitiation for our sins, 1 John 2:2); to cease to feel resentment and own our lives back.  We can move from being victim to accepted because despite our trials and tribulations in the world, He overcame the world (John 16:33).  We can move from a state of being needy to a place of inner strength because it is not I who live but Christ who lives in me (Gal 2:20).  We can stop our excuses and walk in His will because His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isa 55:9).  We can get out of a state of confusion and learn to trust again; trusting that He is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (even when we are faithless, 2 Tim 2:13), gentleness (His burden is light, Mat 11:28-30), and self-controlled (the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, Heb 13:8).  Our flesh may put us on the EVIL wheel of despair toward health but, with God all things are possible (Mat 19:26)!

In 2020, it is my challenge to you to take that nagging issue that YOU can’t seem to rid and seek effectively your individual positive desire of optimal health; growth for all around you — family, friends, co-workers.  Through prayer and being thankful for everything (opportunity for growth and  never forsaking all the blessings that come your way in life), your best health days are yet to come.

It is no coincidence what scripture God puts on my heart to share with my patients/clients each week on my scripture board.  As we wrestle through our winter series in Tai Chi, this is our meditative message to fully experience breakthrough in our resistant mindsets and stabilize our neck and shoulders (a common place of physically harbouring our stress).

Phillipians 4:6-7 NIV
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Join us Thursdays at Perfect Fit Wellness Center in Peyton, from 6-7pm to learn more about how you can also obtain breakthrough in resistive mindset and navigate your Spirit peaceably through the Holy-Days.  For more information or personal coaching on mindset, call Shallyn’s at (719) 219-5865.

Merry Christmas to all!

Resistance to Healing

Ever wonder why you have tried and tried to break a habit that you know is just unhealthy for you and you just can’t do it?  Ever wonder why you have tried “every treatment out there” to heal your pain and nothing has worked?  You’re not alone.

Do you find yourself evaluating every occurrence in your life as right or wrong?  Do you find yourself thinking someone else or something else is the cause of your problem?  Do you find yourself thinking you can’t do “this” by yourself?  Do you find yourself stating “I don’t have…(money, time, energy) to do “this”.”?  Do you find yourself repeating the phrase “I don’t know…”?  You have a subconscious resistance to healing; expressing your ultimate state of health.

So, how do you break this mindset and give yourself a chance at finally healing?  Shallyn’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Services can coach you to change your wheel of resistance into a wheel of success.

Did you know that the bible supports lumbopelvic stability (low back-hip-and leg strength) ?

Job 40:16-17 NKJV
“See now, his strength is in his hips, And his power is in his stomach muscles.  He moves his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.”
So, what does it mean to move your tail like a cedar?  [I think the other parts of the verse are fairly self-explanatory.]

I believe it means to have control of your butt — to be tall, strong, stable, and yet flexible and in balance to nature’s elements all at the same time.  In Tai Chi we call it actively relaxed, in good posture.  In Pilates, we refer to it as activating the power house.

In 2019, feed your body with biblical principles — focus on your lumbopelvic stability for good health!

Why you should consider an annual checkup at Shallyn’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Services

Have you ever wondered how to tweak your workout to give you that extra edge to guard against injury or boost your energy/endurance or give you an extra mile without dying on your run or actually lessen your chances of a devastating fall?  Maybe you just need pointers on what to do to safely start an activity/wellness program.

At Shallyn’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Services, Dr. Shallyn thoroughly examines your functional mobility, quality of mobility, strength, balance, postural integrity, eating habits, sleep habits and stress management to give you this edge.  No other profession has the education to look at you so closely for physical activity safety and ease and less than 1% of physical therapists have Dr. Shallyn’s training to capitalize on the root cause of these difficulties for you.

As a local physical therapist professional for 18 years now, Dr. Shallyn has numerous contacts within the local medical world to humbly and smartly refer you to another practitioner, as needed, for health risks or problems identified during your checkup that fall outside her scope of practice. The checkup should take between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the client and the presence of chronic disease or disability.

We all have imbalances and inherent weaknesses.  Why don’t you schedule an annual checkup today at Shallyn’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Services ((719) 219-5865) to take the guess work out of why that area of your body keeps aching/gives way/won’t seem to get stronger or you just don’t trust your balance anymore or you just can’t seem to muster the energy to be active like your body was built to be.

Wellness is growing at Shallyn’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Services

What is wellness? Wellness is defined as a dynamic process of becoming aware of and making conscious choices toward a more balanced and healthy lifestyle. It includes learning new life skills that address both the positive and negative aspects of human existence.  There are many dimensions to wellness.  Here are the key dimensions available through Shallyn’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Services:

Social Wellness: creating and maintaining healthy relationships through conscious choice.  Social wellness embraces relationships at home and work, friendships and our relationships with all people and future generations.  This dimension encourages contribution to the common welfare of the community.

Welcome to my family!  By participating in physical therapy regularly, there is a professional friendship that grows along with your health.  Not only do I encourage your independent growth in health, but I am happy to spread that news to a group you belong to.  If you have a particular health interest for your social group, please ask me about an educational seminar for your group’s purpose.
Mat 9:37 “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.”…in leading our community to better life long health.

Physical Wellness: process of making choices to create flexible, cardiovascularly fit, energetic, strong bodies.  These choices are related to exercise, nutrition, rest and sleep, stress management, and management of injury and illness.

Throughout this blog (and my facebook page), you will learn more tools for better exercise to manage injury.  I have always had a personal interest in nutrition and am now furthering my active education to patients about holistic, natural ways to combat inflammation (that contributes to the majority of our medical issues and manifests into physical issues) and create an anti-oxidative environment to limit spread of toxic agents in our body that leads to illness.  I believe we have been “fearfully and wonderfully made” Psa 139:14; that our bodies have the awesome, innate mechanisms to heal themselves from illness if we provide them the right opportunity to do so (and prevent opportunity to hinder such healing).  Finally, my rehabilitative Tai Chi practice and hippotherapy availability has been widely used to manage stress.

Emotional Wellness: creating and maintaining a positive, realistic self-concept and realistically assessing potential and limitations.

I desire an environment built on integrity — if I don’t have an answer for you, I will seek to find one, and will happily engage in medical team approaches, referring you to alternative practitioners, as needed, to complete the care you need to treat the cause of your symptoms most effectively.

Career Wellness: staying current in one’s chosen field, helping to create a healthy organizational environment which contributes to your own and others’ well-being.  Career wellness also requires balancing work with the rest of your life.

If you are a PT, PTA, OT, or COTA reading this blog, you will know that I have provided local continuing education for the rehabilitative field.  I have assisted in teaching nation-wide continuing education courses and aim to continue my teaching to promote, specifically, the physical therapy profession, in a fun and holistic, evidence-based way.  Stay tuned here for 2018 events regarding continuing education here in the Colorado Springs area or shoot me a message if you have any requests for specific continuing education in your area.

Spiritual Wellness: discovering meaning and purpose in life, and demonstrating those values through behaviors.

Shallyn’s Physical Therapy and Wellness Services is not just a home based Physical Therapy and Wellness business, it is my “professional ministry”.  As I like to say, “these are not my hands, but His hands; these are not my encouraging words, but His encouraging words”.  I desire each patient/client coming through my doors to feel loved, listened to, and respected.  Prayer and sharing of scripture for encouragement through life’s adventures is commonly practiced at Shallyn’s.

Acts 14:3 “Therefore they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace, granting that signs and wonders be done by their hands.”

So, come, experience wellness at Shallyn’s and be ready to be blessed!
